A New EBook Book Reader From Acer Inc. Set To Take On Kindle
Acer Inc., no slouch when it comes to challenging in the notebook arena, plans to go into the ebook book reader arena soon this year.
Acer executive Jim Wong, president of the company's IT Products branch, outlined the strategy in an interview with Bloomberg at Acer's offices in Taipei.
On the eve of Apple's supposed entry into the tablet sweeps-a device that would serve electronic-book readers with others-Wong also said the company will furthermore put forward "hundreds" of apps online, programs that should sustain Google's Android platform, now running on several Acer products, over and above handling Microsoft's Windows OS.
Before this summer is out, Acer is likely to announce an ebook reader with a 6-inch monochrome screen, Mr. Wong informed Bloomberg. "Amazon.com and B&N; they are U.S.-centric. In Western Europe and Australasia we have publishers to work with, and the majority of them are content owners," he said. Acer will go up in opposition to gadgets including the Amazon dx , Barnes & Noble Inc.'s Nook and Sony's Prs 300 and so it will be easy to compare ebook reader models.
Acer also has the Apple "iSlate"-when it comes out-in its sights. "We're developing something, and we should observe what occures" J.T. Wang, Acer's chairman, said in the commentary. "We're going to work either inside a Windows world or within Google's defined OS space."
