Are You A Left Handed Golf Player?
We can't accuse the golf club manufacturers for targeting their most rewarding market of right-handed golfers, but it is quite difficult for those golfers who play left handed to get the options available to the conventional players.
I have known a couple of golfers who made the switch early on by training to play right handed but this is unrealistic for most people. You have to be playing in the most normal way possible and if that means left handed in that case so be it.
Sadly with everything nowadays it all comes down to economics and profitability and there simply isn't enough income to be made for most suppliers in the left-handed industry.
The percentage of left handed golf players to right handed players is somewhere in the region of 8 percent so the industry is very small, although it is a target market that some brands are targeting although at more expense in most instances.
But there is always a silver lining to the issues that we may come across.
At a recent tournament function, I was introduced to an old gentleman who was playing on a small handicap and had done so for many years. Throughout the conversation he talked about left-handed clubs and the fact that he had started playing left handed in the beginning.
He hadn't learned the way to play from a professional and had developed some bad methods.
After a while, because of frustration with his game and the inadequacy to source the clubs he wanted to, he employed some professional help. After much discussion it was decided that he should try out playing right handed and the golf professional would provide him with the necessary training.
It was a godsend as he was successfully starting from scratch and he learned how to play golf without any of the bad techniques that he had developed on his own. The switch from left to right, in addition to the professional training had held him in good steed throughout his golf playing life.
Indeed, it was a major decision that almost all golfers wouldn't make, but you can never beat a golf player at trying to further improve his performance no matter what steps they might do.
