A spyware installation generally acts as a gateway for other, more harmful programs to be installed onto a users computer. Whenever a spyware program is installed, it could allow worms or other malicious programs into a computer by secretly downloading them without informing the user. These new programs can destroy your computer while stealing critical information such as social security numbers, or even credit card numbers, in the process.
The most favored way in which malware is installed onto an individuals computer is by piggybacking onto another program. This approach is referred to as a "Trojan" in acknowledgment to the Trojan horse used to invade a castle during the Trojan War.
A spyware utility is in general bundled with a program that appeals to a user by promising to make their computer faster, or offering helpful solutions to searching or several other areas.
